Plethos Productions launches new adult theater camp

CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. — Plethos Productions is launching an inaugural theater retreat for adults over 21 this summer to support its efforts to establish a permanent theater space in downtown Hayward.

Camp Monologa, set to take place from 5 p.m. Friday, July 26 to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28 at Heirloom East Bay (9990 Crow Canyon Rd. in Castro Valley), is expected to offer theater lovers the opportunity to create theater magic while connecting with fellow thespians around “a swimming hole, mess hall (catered by Mad Creationz and Motivat Coffee), craft sessions, and fireside sing-alongs,” according to a press release from the community theater nonprofit.

Broadway star and musician Taylor Iman Jones, known for her performances in “Hamilton,” “Head Over Heels,” “Groundhog Day” and “Six,” is expected to be the keynote speaker, while other well-known Bay Area artists, including equity actors Dorian Lockett and Kim Donovan, Chabot College theater professor Dov Hassan, and director Kimberly Ridgeway, will lead hands-on workshops, discussions and activities. Among those activities will be “How to Nail Your Next Acting Audition,” a sketch comedy workshop, yoga, yikes, showtunes by the fire, wine and paint night, and more.

Proceeds from the camp are expected to go toward Plethos Productions’ efforts to establish its own permanent theater arts space, including a restaurant and bar, in downtown Hayward.

James Logan High School alumnus Karin Richey started Plethos Productions in 2017 with the aim of uniting communities through live theater.

Space in the theater retreat is limited, though a variety of ticket options are available, including:

  • one-day meal plan: $30
  • one full day: $160
