Reps. Eric Swalwell, Ro Khanna reluctant to support Muwekma Ohlone Tribe’s federal recognition

A Bay Area tribe has been trying to get federal recognition ever since its people were falsely declared extinct more than a hundred years ago, but local members of Congress are reluctant to support that recognition unless the tribal nation is willing to give up its right to gaming and stop one of its consultants from publishing articles critical of the representatives, according to a recently released audio recording.

Only 17% of households can afford a median-priced home in Alameda County

Only 17% of residents were able to afford a median-priced home at a cost of $1.26 million during the third quarter of the year, according to the most recent data from the California Association of Realtors. The minimum qualifying income to buy a home at that price is $292,400 a year. The median household income in Alameda County is $104,888 a year and the median per capita income is $49,883 a year.
